CHEB
MINIMUM CRITICAL INFORMATION ON THE COURSES
ABOUT THE DIVISION :
The training division came into being in 1964.
But the first training programmer had been started in 1960 with the help
of various specialist in CHEB for Family Planning Extension Educators,
V.D.Workers, District Health Educators, Health Visitors, Nursing
Superintendents, Social Workers, Social Scientist, Teachers and Media Personnel
of various state health education bureau. In
recent years, stress is laid on developing skills in health education, IEC &
health promotion and to integrate theoretical aspect of health education with
field operations.
ACTIVITIES
CHEB conducts both long term and
short term courses in health education.
Objective of Training Division are to:-
(1)
Provide training in health education through long and short term training
programmes to equip the participate to work as health education specialist.
(2)
Prepare and standardise training curriculum for the training of various
categories of health education personnel.
(3)
Provide assistance and guidance to the faculty of health and family
planning training centre/public health institution/NGO’s etc. within and
outside the country.
(4)
Organize periodically short orientation training programmes for visitors
to the Bureau from

(1) Post
Graduate Diploma in Health Education (P.G D.H.E)
The course was started in 1971. It
is a two year post graduate diploma course affiliated to University of Delhi and
reconised by Medical Council of India. Capacity
of course is 20. It is open to
medical and non-medical graduates with social science background and work
experience of one to three years. Foreign
students sponsored by respective countries if fulfill the criteria of Delhi
University are eligible for admission. The
officers of CHEB conduct the course and participate in teaching and field
training.
Aim-To prepare health education
specialist in the country.

1. Training courses in health education for Para-Medical workers

workers of various health programs, medical
Colleges and voluntary organizations.

2. Medical officers’ training course.
-For Medical Officers of
P.H.C’s to strengthen their knowledge about health
education and their role as leaders of health team in P.H.C.

3. Media personnel training

-For photographers,
projectionists, artist, script writers, mechanics etc.of state
Health
Education Bureaus/National Health Programmes/Medical Colleges etc.

in health education to trained medical officers and C.H.S officers to
promote health education and for health promotion.

to undertake responsibilities of various
categories under M.P.W scheme

sensitise doctors from Unani/Homeo/Ayurveda/Tibi System in health

FIELD STUDY & DEMONSTRATION CENTRE
(FSDC)
The
Field Study and Demonstration Centre of the Bureau is a field laboratory to try
various methods and media of health education which can be adopted else where.
The centre provides opportunities for various divisions of the bureau to
undertake the field trials, conduct research, test and develop methods and media
and train various categories of personnel in actual field situations.
CHEB
LIBRARY
The
Bureau has a library with about 10,000 books on varied subjects like health
education, social sciences, communication, training, family welfare, media,
management, adult education, elementary and secondary education etc.
Besides books on various disciplines, the library has a good number of
reference books such as encyclopedias on social sciences, medicine and on
national and international developments; in health reports published from time
to time by the Govt. of India are also placed in the library.
The library receives national and international journals on various
subjects like health education, school health, sociology, public health,
nutrition, population, education etc. The
library is one of the richest libraries in health education.
RESEARCH
AND EVALUATION UNIT
The knowledge of people’s behaviour forms an essential component the
health education. To understand why
people behave the way they do and to develop better ways and means to change
their behaviour, it is essential to study the peoples’ knowledge, their health
practices and attitudes towards various health problems and programmes. With
this view in mind, the research and evaluation division was established in 1960
with the objective to understand and promote behavioural research activities in
the country. The functions of the
division are to:
1. Conduct studies in various
components of society and social forces related to health behaviour.
2. Conduct problem oriented
studies to help in the effective implementation of various public health
programmes.
3. Initiate health related
behavioural studies in cooperation/coordination with international agencies;
universities and other allied organizations.
4. Conduct research methods courses for training social scientists
working in the SHEBs, medical colleges
and in other allied institutions.
5. Strengthen social sciences
and research methods components in various inservice training programmes of the
Bureau.
6. Participate in the two year
post graduate D.H.E programmes of the Bureau affiliated to Delhi University.
7. Conduct evaluation studies of
the various training programmes, methods and media and other service activities
of the Bureau.
8. Assist state health education
bureaus in carrying out health education research and in other research oriented
activities at the state level.
9. Disseminate health education
research information to state health education bureaus and various other allied
institutions at the national level.
The division has conducted 75

2. Small pox
3. Maternity and child health
and family welfare
4. Leprosy
5. Tuberculosis
6. Diarrhoeal diseases
7. Sexually transmitted diseases
8. Environmental sanitation
9. Food practices
10.Medical care etc.
One of the major functions of the division is to produce technical papers
and circulate them to the SHEBs and other institutions who may use these for
developing the research component of health education.
Training in social research methods is another significant function of
the division. The division has been
organizing research methods courses. One
each in 1962, 1966, 1974, 1977 and thereafter yearly as a routine activity.
